Is this a good tattoo Idea? Will it work? What about these piercings?

I will be turning 18 next year in May and my brother said he will take me. I have depression but it seems to have dissipate over time and I still have my issues, but I want to get a tattoo that will symbolize the overcoming of that. I love animals and hope to work with them. My favorite is the Flamingo and Peacock. I was thinking of having the 2 of them combined and have some type of writing. I want to put it on my left shoulder blade. Will that look good or should I put it some where else? Anyone know of any pictures? Any better places to put the tattoo? Your Opinions? Another thing is a tongue piercing, how long after getting it done can you put a clear retainer in? Also with dermal or surface piercing, I'm not getting them just curious as to how they stay in or there pierced? Thanks for any help
