Age & Weight Discrimination during interview?
I am 24 years old, a 4 year military veteran and I have a college degree...that being said I do look young in appearance. I was interviewing for a position that I was well qualified for today and really felt discriminated against. The interviewer asked how old I was, when I said I was turning 25 in a few months, he said "You look like a teenager, I thought you might have still been in highschool when I first saw you" Then he asked me what my weight was. The position does involve heavy lifting, however I think some sort of physical test would be administered rather than just judging my body weight. I weight 140lbs. but I'm in great shape and capable of lifting heavy weight all day. I felt that those two questions were completely unprofessional, and they kind of threw me off for the rest of the interview. I just want to know if a potential employer has the right to ask those sort of questions, whether age discrimination can apply to us younger folks, and what recourse do I have available in terms of a complaint if he was not within his rights? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
